Beneath The Mountain

I never considered myself a landscape photographer...
I always thought of landscape photographers shooting misty morning sunrises in the UK countryside and long exposures of waterfalls with autumn leaves swirling in the pool below. In the trips I’ve taken into the arctic circle, I must have shot a thousand mountains with and without the aurora, countless fjords, villages, and the occasional glacier. It took nearly a decade of shooting for me to look at my work and say “Huh, would you look at that. I’m a landscape photographer too”. I must have just had a preconceived notion of what it was based on an early photography book that I read, and it stuck. Until my late 30’s I’d never seen many photos of the arctic that painted it as a beautiful place. Hopefully this collection starts to do just that.
