All too often these sections are filled with ``me, me, me`` when they should be about ``us, us, us``
In reality, little of the work we do as designers is possible without a great team. As a senior team member it’s important to me to pass on knowledge, help to build great teams, and above all to listen to other designers. Whether they are Art Directors or interns, what they share could start us down the trail to the right solution.
None of us are as smart as all of us.
We just completed the adoption process with our daughter Cyra, and we couldn’t be happier! She and my son Otto light up our lives. We love to keep them active, outdoors and always looking for new experiences. My wife Sherri and I have been married for 17 years.
In the 17 years we’ve been married, my wife and I have managed to travel to 23 countries together. Travel is a top priority in our lives. We believe that seeing the world far outweighs the need to accumulate “stuff”. My son at age 8 has been to more countries than I had been to by age 28. His first international trip was to Iceland at age 2.
Never in a million years did I think I’d be interested in, let alone good at, axe throwing. We went for my wife’s birthday a few years ago, and I was hooked. I travel to competitions all over the northeast. I have even competed at the World Championship in Canada. At present, I’m ranked 50th in the world and 24th in the US.
I was very fortunate to attend a high school with an amazing electives program. I never knew when I signed up for Intro to Visual Communication 1 that it would turn into a lifelong passion. By the end of the first class I was hooked. Throughout my high school career, I ate, breathed, and occasionally slept in the design lab.
After college in San Francisco, I moved back to the east coast where I spent the next 20 years working on a variety of design programs from advertising campaigns, to environmental branding, to positioning and strategy to video and storytelling.
To date, my team and I have been awarded numerous awards, with our highest honor being the Shorty Impact Awards for the All Inclusive Boston campaign.
I don’t wait for things to be delivered on a silver platter. I’m proactive and encourage my teams to be as well.
None of us are as smart as all of us. I always make it a point to create a space for the right ideas to reveal themselves through active participation.
I give credit and praise loudly and publicly. Whether it’s my family or my design team, I share their wins from the highest peak. Everyone should share in the glory, not just the directors (or the parents).
20 years of experience has only kept me hungry. I’m still not full…I may never be. I always want to learn, do and compete at a higher level than before
