Aerial Videography

Whether it is an accent to give a sense of scale, a locator, or simple B roll, aerial footage can add so much to a film.

Up in the air

My experience with aerial imaging started years ago with shooting stills out the side of a Robinson 44 helicopter with the doors off. To give some context, a Robinson is the 1984 Ford Escort of the helicopter world. The first time I went up I was expecting a five point harness since the door would be off. I was wrong. What I got was a regular automotive seatbelt. Yikes, right?

Still progressed to video, and before I knew it, I was running a cineflex with a RED Helium which is an 8K cinema quality set up. And when budgets don’t allow, I was hanging out the door with a ronin or operating a drone from the ground. My FAA Drone Operator Certification will be complete in Q1 2022.
